About LisaMorosky.com
LisaMorosky.com is a blend of blogging, social media, entrepreneurship, web working, and Gen Y tips and commentary, with elements of Lisa’s personal life thrown into the mix.
The Basics
Hey there! My name is Lisa Morosky. I’m 23 years old. I’m married to a wonderful man, James Morosky, and we live in Wheaton, Illinois. I’m a Virtual Assistant to busy bloggers and Internet entrepreneurs. I’m also a blogger chick, and I’m the Founder of VAforBloggers.com, LisaMorosky.com, and SpendLessOnLife.com.
My History
I was born in Pennsylvania and lived there until I was 11. I then moved out to Colorado with my family and lived there until I graduated high school. I’ve always been an East Coast girl at heart, so I headed back to Pennsylvania and attended Penn State University (where I met my husband). I graduated in 3.5 years with a B.A. in Media Studies and a Minor in Communication Arts & Sciences. After graduation, my husband and I got married and moved out to Illinois so he could attend chiropractic school.
My Love Affair with the Internet
I can’t remember when my family first got the Internet. But, I remember first becoming obsessed with it in sixth grade. I would spend hours on the computer chatting with people and learning about HTML. I remember the first webpage I created. It was on Expage. It was an extremely girly tribute to NSync and other things I liked. But what I find to be really interesting now is that even then, I was using the Internet to network with other like-minded individuals.
My history with blogging is just as convoluted in my memory. I remember writing blog entries (although not knowing the term at the time) on my Expage site, then later on Diaryland, Livejournal, Blogger, MySpace, and other blog-hosting sites that have since been forgotten. I got a huge thrill out of sharing my personal life with the masses (or, two or three people at most). I was able to see my own blogging evolve from personal rants and raves, to helping others.
I’ve lived and breathed the Internet since I was 12 years old. I consider myself fortunate to be a part of Generation Y, a generation that has grown up with some incredible technology and opportunities.
Discontent Breeds an Entrepreneurial Mindset
After my husband and I moved to Illinois, I spent an agonizing three months searching for a job (any job that would pay the bills really). I originally was searching for entry-level media and marketing jobs. But then, due to the job market and competition in the area and the fact that I was fresh out of college, I had to lower my standards. I finally found a job as an Administrative Assistant.
At the time, it was a financial godsend. Even now, I’m thankful I found that job when I did because it was really starting to become a desperate situation for my husband and I. But as time went on, I became more and more dissatisfied with what I was doing. Also during this time, I was spending hours a day learning about professional blogging, social media, and Internet marketing. I also began sharpening my web design, writing, and coding skills.
Subconsciously, I think I knew this job wasn’t going to last much longer for me. I was stressed 24/7. I was sick almost weekly. I was depressed. This wasn’t the life I pictured for myself. My time was not my own. My life was not my own. At this point, I had the knowledge and the desire to do much more. I just needed a push in the right direction to make it happen.
In a total moment of fate, I saw a tweet that David Risley (a professional blogger who I had been following for several months) had sent out on Twitter. He said he was looking for a Virtual Assistant. Looking back at it now, I don’t know what came over me, but I immediately sent him an email and said I had the education, experience, and knowledge to work with him. Much to my surprise, and after a long email back-and-forth, I began working as a Virtual Assistant to a well-known blogger. It was a dream come true to be totally immersed in an industry I love.
Something Dave said about me in a blog post he wrote ignited an entirely new career for me. Dave said he chose me as his Virtual Assistant because I actually expressed a sincere desire to do what he does for a living, and I understood his industry. Alarm bells went off in my head. I realized a huge, gaping hole in the Virtual Assistant industry: specialized services for bloggers and Internet entrepreneurs.
Long story short, VAforBloggers.com was launched a month later. I worked two jobs for several months before quitting my job as an Administrative Assistant. At the age of 23, my one life dream had already come true: I began to live life on my own terms.
See here’s the thing: Growing up, I did what I considered to be the right thing to do. I got a job in high school. I went to college. I got a job out of college. All of these steps are wonderful, and for some people they bring true happiness. But not for me. I always felt that something was missing. That’s when I realized something that truly set me free: That lifestyle is the rule. It’s how you live your life if you’re a follower of rules. But if you’re like me and you’ve never been one to follow the rules, well then your life is the exception to the rule.
What I Am
- I am self-taught. The majority of things I know how to do on the Internet are self-taught. HTML, CSS, PHP, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, WordPress, etc…I learned it all from just messing around for hours, searching the Internet for information to try out, and making a whole lot of mistakes.
- I am a total travel addict. I haven’t been many places yet, but I have big travel plans for the next ten years.
- I am totally in love with social media. I live it. I breathe it. I love to connect with others this way.
- I am passionate about the Virtual Assistant work I do. I am thrilled to be able to help other bloggers free up time so they can really focus and prosper.
- I am a reality TV fiend. I will watch pretty much any reality TV show ever made.
- I am committed to experiencing everything I want to experience in life, without breaking the bank. I refuse to sacrifice my dreams and my goals because of money. I enjoy finding new ways to save and spend wisely, so I can live with no regrets. This is what SpendLessOnLife.com is dedicated to.
- I enjoy educating others, especially other members of Gen Y, on alternative career lifestyles. Sometimes I feel all anybody preaches is the status quo. I think that’s uncool.
- I am outspoken. Shocking, I know.
- I am always learning. And always sharing that knowledge.
- I am a huge football fan. The only teams that matter: the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Penn State Nittany Lions.
What I’m Not
- I am not a morning person. I can’t begin working any earlier than 10 AM.
- I am never going to refer to myself as an “expert”. I say this for two reasons. First of all, the word “expert” means a lot more coming from others. Secondly, the moment I tell you I’m an expert is the moment I’m telling you that I’ve officially learned all I need to learn. And I don’t see that ever happening.
- I am not a know-it-all about technology. I think I have above average tech knowledge, but there are a whole lot of things I really don’t understand.
- I am not a Mac user. Macs appear to be a blogger standard, but I’ve just never been interested in changing from my PCs.
