I’ve always been a Thesis Theme and WooThemes advocate. And don’t get me wrong here – I still think these are great themes and I highly recommend them for those who know a little bit (not a lot) of programming.
But I recently completely switched the soon-to-be-launched SpendLessOnLife.com to Headway. And here’s why.
- Curiosity – I was wondering what all this Headway hoopla was about. So I bought it and messed around with it and subsequently loved it.
- The Visual Editor – Seeing what you’re doing, as you’re doing it, makes designing a blog so much easier and faster.
- I re-designed my entire blog in just a couple of hours. – I mean, if that’s not efficient, I don’t know what is. It took me several days with the WooThemes theme I was using and all the hacks I had to do to it to get the look and feel right.
- Headway has built-in capabilities that allow me to get rid of several plugins. – The less plugins, the better. They just inevitably slow down your site and make upgrading a nightmare. I got rid of Viper’s Video QuickTags, the All-In-One SEO Pack, Page Links To, and some other plugins.
- I did little to no hacking of this theme. – You know what that means? Upgrading will be less stressful in the future.
- It works beautifully with WishList Member. – This was an important aspect for me.
- You can customize page templates easily and without programming. – It took about two minutes to turn a page into a sales page, an archives page, etc.
- Headway still allows for deep customization (but they made it easier to do). – You still have your custom programming and CSS options, if you choose to use them.
- The theme made my site load faster and made the dashboard look much more organized. – I hate having a cluttered WordPress dashboard. And my site noticeably loads faster.
- When you buy the personal option, it’s for use on TWO blogs (versus one with most other premium themes). – That’s pretty cool (and I love saving money).
- You can customize your site via dragging and dropping. – You can see changes immediately. You can change dimensions of various elements. You don’t need to make a programming change, save it, refresh the page, go back and change something, save it, etc. It saves you a ton of time.
If one of your New Year’s Resolutions involves making your blog look cleaner and reducing your overall blog design stress, go with Headway. I plan on moving LisaMorosky.com to Headway (and VAforBloggers.com to Thesis).
