Disclaimer/Disclosure/”I Got Free Stuff” Notice: The fabulous folks at Cirque du Soleil (many thanks to Jessica Berlin for arranging it all) hooked me up with two tickets to The Beatles LOVE while I was at BlogWorld in October 2009.
My mom and I went to see The Beatles LOVE while we were in Las Vegas in October 2009 (I was in Vegas for BlogWorld, my mom was just hanging out with me). I had never been to a Cirque du Soleil show before, so I really had no idea what to expect.
From the moment that you step into the theater area in The Mirage, it’s like Beatles explosion. People in costumes. Colors everywhere. It’s a feast for your senses, really. My mom and I made our way to our seats, which were amazing and allotted us with a great view of the show. While waiting for the show to begin, I tried to snap a picture of my mom and I and, of course, promptly got scolded. People had been telling me not to do that all day, but I did it anyways.
The show began and immediately we were both just enthralled. This show had so many things going on at one time, that I often found myself looking in every which direction in order to not miss anything. The costumes were really well done.
The music was, of course, The Beatles. It was awesome. There are speakers in your chair at the show, so you can thoroughly rock out.
The acrobatics were great. We often found ourselves whispering to each other, “How did she do that? Whoa, did you see him?”. I also really enjoyed the straight-up dancing. I’ve always been a fan of dancing, so seeing talented people dance was really entertaining.
There were a few interesting moments. I don’t want to blow it for anyone, but let me just say that if you’re tall, you’re going to get bumped in the face by something at this show. There were also a couple times where the strobe lights were borderline too much. In fact, my mom leaned over to me once and said, “You get the real feel of the time period at this show. Acid trip and all.”
All in all, it was a great show, from my point of view.
I’ve heard some criticisms of this show, in particular that they don’t do nearly as many acrobatic things as other shows. I can see how that may be true. But I enjoyed what I saw and wasn’t bored for a minute.
Tickets to The Beatles LOVE range from $93.50 – $150.00 ($103.50 – $160.00 during the holiday season). If you’re a Beatles fan, and you’re in Vegas and want to see a good show, Cirque du Soleil The Beatles LOVE might just be the show for you.
